Fight the COVID-19 and Defend Shanghai Together — Huabao Staff as Community Volunteers for Pandemic Prevention

Following the lockdown of districts in the east of Huangpu River, Shanghai (“Pudong”) to take massive nucleic acid testing (NAT), districts in the west of Huangpu River, Shanghai (“Puxi”) also implemented the lockdown policy to actively cooperate with the massive NAT on April 1. The NAT in Puxi involved 16 million people and 12 districts. Compared with the first batch, it involved more people and larger lockdown areas, with greater difficulties. It was undoubtedly an unprecedented “war” for grassroots community residents committees.

Before the lockdown, the community residents committees of Jiading District, Shanghai, where Huabao Shanghai Industrial Park is located, had begun volunteer recruitment, calling on everyone to work together to fight the COVID-19 and defend Shanghai.

In communities which they reside, Huabao staff have actively signed up as volunteers to make their contributions and defend the city.

“We have the best people in the world!”

HE Aihua, Deputy Director of Huabao Operations Service Center, who served as a volunteer in Yumin Community of Jiading District, and was responsible for personnel management in the residential building and implementation of the “staying at home” policy. HE said, “It is our duty to do something for the community in this special period. We are bound to beat the virus because we have the best people in the world. Yes. As people are making concerted effort, we are bound to win the battle against the COVID-19.”

“Do my bit for the community!”

YU Chunlei, Deputy Bidding Manager of the Operations Service Center, who served as a volunteer in Shengxin Community of Jiading District, mainly assisting the community in carrying supplies and more. YU is a warm-hearted person in Huabao, and also a master of sports. He said, “I just do my bit for the community! As men, we are strong and must shoulder a responsibility in physical work.” His simple and plain words show his strong sense of responsibility and commitment.

XU Huaye, in charge of documents of the HR & Administration Department, is an ex-soldier. She signed up to be a volunteer at the very beginning of volunteer recruitment in Yumin Community, mainly responsible for informing residents to take NAT, reminding residents not to go out, reminding garbage collection time and delivering express. She said, “To beat the virus, we depend on all. As long as we make concerted effort, we can win the battle against the COVID-19.” We can see a soldier’s sense of responsibility from her. Although she has left the army, she still upholds the spirits as a soldier, which is worth admiring and learning.

She signed up to be a volunteer at the very beginning of volunteer recruitment in Baoxiang Community, mainly responsible for implementation of the “staying at home” policy and distribution of supplies, etc. YAN said, “It is the hardest time for Shanghai now. Everyone is trying the best. I hope we can unite as one to overcome all difficulties. Come on, Shanghai! As a Party member, we should take the lead in voluntary pandemic prevention activities, which is not only our responsibility but also our commitment.”

Her thin body holds great strength and decisive commitment. She signed up to be a volunteer at the very beginning of volunteer recruitment in Jiayue Community of Jiading District, mainly responsible for distribution of pandemic prevention and control supplies. She said, “As long as we join hands together to move forward, we can find the way towards victory.”

“If you love the city, please try your best to defend it!”

MU Jieqiang, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union Federation of Huabao Shanghai Industrial Park and Planning Manager of Huabao HR and Administration Department, who served as a volunteer for pandemic prevention in the northern industrial area of Shanghai Jiading District, responsible for management of residents and distribution of supplies, etc. He is a veteran volunteer for pandemic prevention. In early 2020 when the COVID-19 was serious, he quickly joined the community’s volunteer team for pandemic prevention and control after returning from his hometown - Anhui Province. At that time, pandemic prevention supplies were extremely scarce. He assisted communities in carrying out vehicle control, distributing supplies to quarantined residents, and collecting and transporting garbage. He said, “If you love the city, please try your best to defend it!”

Huabao’s volunteers for community pandemic prevention have showed strong sense of responsibility and commitment. They are Huabao staff with “morality, realm, ability and method”. They have demonstrated Huabao’s spirits of “innovation, pragmatism, loyalty, and collaboration”. They are doing a lot of things in their power. They believe that great things may be done by collective efforts. As long as we live up to our responsibility and make concerted effort, we can surely overcome the difficulties.

We hope that everyone fighting in the front line of the battle against COVID-19 would protect themselves well! We hope that the pandemic will end soon; people can recover normal life and regular work; students can go to and leave school normally; and the streets are crowded with people and vehicles. We hope that people’s efforts and devotion can eventually bring the peaceful days back!
